.............

Sindhudurg killings verdict came out yesterday. High Court confirms death sentence on 4 convicts.
The case is as follows,
8 yrs ago. in Dec '03, four young men had lured 9 victims from Mumbai, Pune and Satara under the guise of multiplying their money by magic and then brutally murdered them at a hillock in Sindhudurg.
The divisional bench of Justice said- and "they acted as if they were professional murderers" while executing a meticulously planned conspiracy. The court noted that the alternative life sentence could not be considered in the case as it would shock the conscience of the society. "In our opinion all the convicted accused would be a menace to society and they cannot be reformed" the judges said.
Well done, bench of Justice. But reading this, do you not immediately draw parallels with the Kasab case? Justice decided to hear out Kasab's plea. What, and Kasab can be reformed? After serving some 25 yrs of his sentence, if he's let out on basis of good conduct, will the society throw a "welcome reformed Kasab" party for him? Was his act not meticulously planned and executed in cold blood? Or was he just playing with some Kalashnikov's that accidentally went off?

I'm not in favour of death penalty. I mean, we're not China (which IMO is one messed up country by the way). I'm always reminded of Gandalf's words- Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement. For even the very wise cannot see all ends.
Still, the lack of reason, the apparent injustice brings me to a boil. I cannot help it.

associated memories

I always found it intriguing how some actions are intricately related to memories.. some songs for example. "mitwa" reminds of my first year in college and it's the most bizzare feeling. it's as if i'm lifted and transported to 5303.. that song was a super hit then.. I remember how we'd bought those cheap fm radios at dadar station and me and kaiya would lie listening to them.. every once in a while saying "kaiya are red fm lav, mitwa laglay!" :D (heard mitwa after a long long time and it brought all of these things gushing back... wanted to put this on as a status msg but it was too much to condense into a status )
i mean i can literally feel the rain falling as we stood haggling with the fm radio vendor at dadar.. me adwait and kaiya.. dunno how these memories remain so fresh.. wonder if there is a decay rate to memories and some memories fade away faster than others.. I don't remember my first day in college so vividly as this and they are both from barely a few weeks apart.. you tend to remember certain "type" of memories better. and this "type" or combination of types is unique for every person. some memories remain there for they were adrenaline rushing moments, some do coz they touched your heart and appealed to softer emotions..  i think the "life" of a memory must have something to do with the hormone(s) secreted at the moment.. but whatever it is sure does break the time space continuum..
what is with actions and thoughts? perhaps we will never know.. I'm sure you must have experienced this- you're doing something and suddenly you remember you have to meet so and so and tell them something.. and on the way someone else stops you and you start talking and after that, for the life of you, you don't remember what you came out to do!! isn't it? it irks you.. like it's just around the corner of yr "memory path" but you can not get there! so then you go back to doing what you were doing in the first place, retracing yr steps that is, and then it comes back to you. sorta like a non-return valve, you have to get back to the upstream end to pass thru the valve again.
Sooo innocuous.. it has you wondering why you forgot such a simple thing.. what are these memories? chemical reactions?? some reversible, some irreversible, or rather "action/path specific" ? I would love to find out some of these answers some day but for now, goodnight!
