associated memories

I always found it intriguing how some actions are intricately related to memories.. some songs for example. "mitwa" reminds of my first year in college and it's the most bizzare feeling. it's as if i'm lifted and transported to 5303.. that song was a super hit then.. I remember how we'd bought those cheap fm radios at dadar station and me and kaiya would lie listening to them.. every once in a while saying "kaiya are red fm lav, mitwa laglay!" :D (heard mitwa after a long long time and it brought all of these things gushing back... wanted to put this on as a status msg but it was too much to condense into a status )
i mean i can literally feel the rain falling as we stood haggling with the fm radio vendor at dadar.. me adwait and kaiya.. dunno how these memories remain so fresh.. wonder if there is a decay rate to memories and some memories fade away faster than others.. I don't remember my first day in college so vividly as this and they are both from barely a few weeks apart.. you tend to remember certain "type" of memories better. and this "type" or combination of types is unique for every person. some memories remain there for they were adrenaline rushing moments, some do coz they touched your heart and appealed to softer emotions..  i think the "life" of a memory must have something to do with the hormone(s) secreted at the moment.. but whatever it is sure does break the time space continuum..
what is with actions and thoughts? perhaps we will never know.. I'm sure you must have experienced this- you're doing something and suddenly you remember you have to meet so and so and tell them something.. and on the way someone else stops you and you start talking and after that, for the life of you, you don't remember what you came out to do!! isn't it? it irks you.. like it's just around the corner of yr "memory path" but you can not get there! so then you go back to doing what you were doing in the first place, retracing yr steps that is, and then it comes back to you. sorta like a non-return valve, you have to get back to the upstream end to pass thru the valve again.
Sooo innocuous.. it has you wondering why you forgot such a simple thing.. what are these memories? chemical reactions?? some reversible, some irreversible, or rather "action/path specific" ? I would love to find out some of these answers some day but for now, goodnight!

  1. Yes, i completely agree about songs bringing back memories... Its like we have phases in life defined by songs.. like i have "Run-Snow patrol" reminds me of my 8th sem. Golden Floor, Warmer climate- 7th sem.... etc..

Its weird. i remember telling you about it... :)

"sorta like a non-return valve, you have to get back to the upstream end to pass thru the valve again."

We have spoken about this too, but you ve put it so well, the non return valve example , so so apt !!!

As i read the post, (this was 4th time) i realized that THIS is what everybody feels, experiences.. !! but only a few take pains to actually write it down ! every line that you have written made me feel like - " yes, i think so too ", "yes, so true" and all such responses.

You have written down what everyone's subconscious mind thinks !

    Great job Rao.

  2. Likes this Blog. It is true we have a song for every mood/emotions/memories.

"The Song" seems to act like a search index (sorry for putting personal engineering metaphors! :P) to pull out that memory.

Nice read for the morning! Keep writing!
